Surviving Universal UK (SUUK) is proud to announce Richard Scorer, Saba Ali FRSA and Dr Ron Dodzro as the first three founding members of our new Advisory Committee.

Bringing expertise across abuse law, equalities and clinical psychology, their appointments mark a significant step in SUUK’s development as the UK’s only Black-led specialist organisation dedicated to addressing spiritual and cultic abuse.

Our founding advisors are:

  • Richard Scorer, Head of Abuse Law at Slater and Gordon and Vice President of the National Secular Society, bringing extensive experience of representing survivors and pursuing institutional accountability.

Their decision to lend their expertise and insight to SUUK is a proud moment for our organisation and the survivor-led movement we are building.

Growing our reach, strengthening our foundations

As SUUK grows, we are strengthening the structures that support our work. The Advisory Committee will provide strategic advice, constructive challenge and specialist insight as we develop our survivor support, training, research, advocacy and policy work.

This is about building an organisation with the expertise, accountability and ambition to sustain change. Our advisors will help us ask difficult questions, sharpen our approach and strengthen our response to spiritual and cultic abuse.

Professional expertise and lived experience will sit alongside one another, with survivors remaining central to our purpose and direction.

From creating specialist resources to bringing survivors’ experiences into national policy discussions, SUUK has worked to put spiritual and cultic abuse on the agenda. Establishing our Advisory Committee marks the next stage: building on that work, extending our influence and developing the foundations for a stronger organisation.

We are proud to welcome Richard, Saba and Dr Ron, and grateful for their commitment to our cause. Having respected voices across law, equalities and psychology contribute to our work opens new possibilities for collaboration, learning and impact.

We will announce further Advisory Committee members in the coming days, bringing additional professional expertise and lived experience to this next chapter.

Our ambition remains clear: better recognition of spiritual and cultic abuse, stronger responses to survivors and meaningful institutional accountability.
