Saba Ali FRSA

Saba Ali FRSA is an equalities advocate and coalition leader working at the intersection of race, gender and sexuality, with a particular focus on cultural abuse and "honour" based abuse. She chairs the Ban Conversion Practices Coalition, an alliance of 80 organisations campaigning for a full and inclusive ban on conversion practices, including those carried out in religious and community settings.

 

That work means insisting abuse in faith spaces is named as abuse, and that survivors from Black, Asian and marginalised communities are never asked to choose between their faith, their culture and their safety. Saba is LGBTQIA+ Network Lead at the Royal Society of Arts, a Critical Friend to the Metropolitan Police Service, and a steering group member of the Alliance for Police Accountability. She is passionate about supporting survivor led practice and culturally competent safeguarding.

Saba’s experience building coalitions, bringing people together and campaigning for equality is a real strength for SUUK. Her commitment to ending conversion practices matters to us personally: we have supported survivors who experienced these harms within high-control groups. We are excited to have Saba’s voice on our Advisory Committee as we work to make support safer and more inclusive.
